One Student, One Tree: 200 Saplings Planted in Surendra Institute of Engineering and Management

Hundreds of students along with the departmental heads, teaching, and non-teaching staffs planted more than 200 tree saplings of various species on the campus of Surendra Institute of Engineering and Management (SIEM), Siliguri, on August 14.
The students of tall the semesters from the departments of Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Computer Science participated in the plantation drive organized by the college with huge enthusiasm and fanfare to save nature.
Union HRD Minister launched a unique campaign aimed at environmental conversation for engineering students. The campaign titled ‘one student, one tree’ was initiated by Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, through which he
intends to not only spread awareness about environmental challenges but also plans to plant a million saplings with the help of school and college students. The students of engineering colleges across the nation will be required to plant one tree on their campus. In order to give a start to the scheme, Pokhriyal himself had planted trees along with school students in Bengaluru.
“Launching the initiative, Pokhriyal had said in a tweet, “We aim to plant one million trees in KV schools across the county.” He also added that the initiative was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of a green and healthy environment.
SIEM hosted the event following the directives of MHRD and AICTE on the eve of the Independence Day on Wednesday at College premises.
