Surendra Institute of Engineering & Management takes immense pleasure in taking you down the memory lane to its first Industry Academia Conference “SIEM TECHNOTHON-I” held on 24th Feb 2012 in the college campus. The first of its kind in the entire region of North Bengal, the event started off with registration of students from and around Siliguri as well as of esteemed guests from various industries and academic institutions. The event was graced by the presence of our Hon’ble President of Bidya Bharati Foundation- Shri. Rambilas Agarwal, Pro VC, Delhi Public School, Siliguri- Smt. Kamlesh Agarwal, Chairman, SIEM, Siliguri- Shri. Sharad Agarwal, and Director, SIEM, Siliguri- Smt. Snigdha Agarwal, who welcomed all the delegates and wished the event a grand success. The theme of the conference was “How can engineering education better respond to the needs of Indian and Global enterprises?” The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Janardhan Jha, Sr. Advisor to VC, Sharda University along with other renowned Academic & Industry experts namely, Mr. Sougata Mukherjee, Head of IBM Telecom Research Center, New Delhi, Mr. Hiranmay Sarkar, Global Head Oracle Practice, TCS Kolkata, Mr. Sandeep Dandekar, Vice President of Global Procurement & Global Travel at Syntel Ltd, Mr. Kastubh Bagchi, Engineering Manager of Bechtel, Gurgaon, Dr. Sudhir Ranjan Dey, Director of New Delhi Institute of Management, Delhi and Mr. Prashant Sharma from IIT Kharagpur, shared their expertise and their views on the theme. The idea of the Industry Academia forum was to establish a sustained consultation activity with industry and to exploit and develop the outcomes of the projects of the students done in consultation with the industries in order to transfer theory into practice and improve engineering education according to the needs of the industry. The ultimate goal of the conference was to bridge gap between Indusrty and Academia, train individuals for their jobs in the future and make them Industry Ready Professionals.
